Simple beginners guitar tab can vary depending on what kind or type of guitar you are playing. For instance, guitar tablature for a six string guitar would be different than tablature for a twelve string guitar. In this beginners lesson on guitar tabs, we will be focusing on reading guitar tabs for guitar music that is played with a six sting guitar.

Guitar tabs, or guitar tablature, can be extremely useful when it comes to trying to figure out your favorite guitar solo, or guitar chords, and in this section of online video guitar lessons this simple beginners guitar tab you will find that reading guitar tabs, can be as easy as counting, then it is just a matter of time figuring out what a few of the symbols mean, and with some guitar techniques, and you will be well on your way to figuring out your favorite guitar music.

For first part of the simple beginners guitar tab, you are going to learn the basics of reading guitar tabs. There are three different ways that guitar music can be noted.

To get a basic idea of how guitar tabs work, there are six lines, and numbers, the lines represent the six guitar strings, and the numbers that are placed on the lines, represents which guitar fret to place your fingers on.

Below is an excellent guitar exercise that will help to stretch out your fingers, increase your guitar picking accuracy, and help you progress much faster.

This is what is going on in the simple guitar tab for beginners picture above. The bottom line in the picture is the Low E String (the thickest string on your guitar that is closest to the ceiling), then A, D, G, B, and the High E String (the thinnest string that is closest to your feet).

The very first number that you see "1" on the Low E String means pick the Low E String on the first fret of the guitar. Then you see a 2, 3, and 4, which means, pick the Low E on the second, third and fourth fret too. Part of this particular exercise also teaches you a particular method on how to pick the strings. When picking the strings, alternate downward and upward guitar picking

When you pick the first fret, pick the guitar string with a down stroke, and then when you pick the second fret, pick the string with an upward stroke, and then for the third fret, pick down, fourth fret, pick up.

Then,

You go to the A String, and repeat the pattern, then the D String, and so on, and when you get to the end, go through the simple beginners guitar tab again, but in reverse, (still 1,2,3,4), but just down the guitar neck instead of up. (down is up, and up is down) Example: E A D G B E would be going up the guitar neck, and then E B G D A E would be going down the guitar neck.
