3 Common Guitar Accessories You May Want to Use

While a guitar can be played without any accessories at all, many people choose to purchase guitar accessories for their guitar. Often having the right accessories can make it easier to play the guitar and they can provide you with different sound options as well. Not sure what accessories are out there for your guitar? Well, here are a few of the most common accessories that you may want to consider purchasing for use with your guitar.

Accessory #1 – Capo – Probably one of the most common accessories used on a guitar today is a capo, which is short for capodastra. These guitar accessories are used to actually change the pitch of the open strings of the guitar. You simply take the capo and clip it onto the fret board of your guitar, and many use either elastic tension or spring tension to stay on. Capos are often used to help players play in a variety of different keys, even though they don’t have to change their chord formations to do so. Usually this is done by those who are not familiar with all the chord formations for different keys. However, some actually use capos to help change the pitch of the instrument to sound like another instrument, such as a lute.

Accessory #2 –Guitar Slides – Slides are also quite popular guitar accessories as well. They are often used in rock music and even blues music to create a different sound, such as a “Hawaiian” sound or what is known as a glissando. It used to be that the necks of a bottle were used by those playing country or blues. However, today you’ll find that most slides are made out of steel, glass, ceramic, plastic, brass, or even chrome, and the different types can actually change the tone of the guitar.

Accessory #3 – Gutiar Picks – Of course probably the most used guitar accessories are guitar picks, which are also known as plectrums. A pick is a small hard piece of material that you hold in your fingers and use to pick the guitar strings. Usually classical guitar players do not use picks, but many other people use them today. Most of the time you’ll find that these picks are made of plastic, but you can also find them made out of steel, bone, tortoise shell, or even wood. There are a variety of different sizes of picks as well, and they are used for different types of playing and for different sounds as well.

So, these are a few common accessories for the guitar that are used on a regular basis by many guitar players. While you don’t have to have them in order to properly play your guitar, they may be worth picking up, especially if you are a beginning guitar player and there are many sources online to get great deals on guitar accessories.
