Bass Guitars
Bass guitar can be an important part of a band. Bass guitars can help to keep the rhythm of a song, and usually follows along with the drums.
There are a lot of different brands of bass guitars, like Fender, Ibenez, Rickenbacker, Alembic, Peavey, etc. The bass guitar also comes in various forms, like a fretless bass, and electric bass, an acoustic bass guitar etc.
Bass guitars have a longer neck, larger body, and are usually heavier than a guitar, although, there are some exceptions. Bass guitar strings are commonly tuned with the same pitch as that of a double bass, or the pitch of a guitars 4 lower strings (which would be E, A, D, G) but an octave lower.
Bass guitars are used in a variety of different styles of music like, rock, blues, jazz, metal, fusion, latin, funk, punk, etc.
The first electric bass guitar instrument was invented in the 1930's by Paul Tutmark. It was the first bass that was played horizontally, that had frets, but bass guitars didn't start to become popular until the 1950's.
