Banjo

The banjo was created by enslaved africans in the U.S. Some of the earlier versions of the instrument are sometimes called "gourd banjos"

By 1840 banjos had made their way to Britain. There are many different versions of the banjo. There are 4 string banjos (tenor/plectrum banjos), 5 string banjos, and also banjos with 6 strings, which are tuned like, and played like a guitar.

A banjo is sometimes played by strumming the strings fast, or picking the strings with the fingers, but there are several different ways to play the banjo.
